To save time, instead of making chicken stock yourself, just purchase ready made low fat or no fat broth. Of course, that is entirely up to you. From there, the sky is the limit. You can make some slight changes and prepare soups made of celery, broccoli, mushroom, chicken and rice, and so on.
These slight changes that we mention above have to do with the fact that some herbs work well with certain foods and not so well with others. But, as you search for interesting recipes either in cookbooks or online or even in magazines, you will see which ingredients work for the particular vegetable or food you're making.
In addition to that, your experience as a cook will also play a big role in how you prepare your meals. The more experience you have, the more you know about how to enhance flavors in certain meals. Sometimes is it just trial and error, but it also has a lot to do with personal taste. For instance, some recipes may call for a certain herb that you or a family member are either allergic to or absolutely abhor. That's okay. There are alternatives.
